FSG Strategic Plan
In the spring of 2006, a group of FSG members developed a strategic plan in order to provide long term focus
and guidance for FSG efforts.
- Values Based - Values Define FSG and What it Wants to Achieve
- Five Core Values: Integrity, Respect, Passion, Inspire, Maximize Potential
- Values were defined and behaviors that demonstrate these values were enumerated.
- Vision and Mission Statements were developed from a consideration of FSG Core Values.
- FSG Vision Statement: To support Silver Gate Elementary School in becoming an acknowledged
leader in the kind of educational excellence and community involvement that creates outstanding citizens
and life-long learners.
- FSG Mission Statement: With passion, respect, and integrity, Friends of Silver Gate is
dedicated to the support of an inspiring environment at Silver Gate Elementary School that promotes excellence
in academics and excellence in character. Ongoing, vigorous fundraising efforts will support the implementation
of enriched educational programs and the maintenance of superior facilities. Sponsorship of school wide events
will promote a welcoming and inclusive environment that inspires families to fully participate in their
children's educational experience and invites the surrounding community to share our vision of educational
excellence. FSG will collaborate with similar stakeholders in the Point Loma cluster to promote the continual
improvement of the educational experience in the entire cluster, thereby offering all Silver Gate students the
opportunity to become outstanding citizens and life-long learners.
- Goals to achieve over a three to five year period.
- Goal One: To promote the development of good citizenship through values education.
- Goal Two: To develop an internal communications plan that promotes strong parent networks
for information-sharing, volunteering, giving and overall coordination among families; and to develop an
external communications plan that builds partnerships with our community, with our cluster schools, with
local business partners and with the media.
- Goal Three: To promote the expansion, enhancement and enrichment of the Silver Gate curriculum
in ways that elevates Silver Gate beyond the expectations of the San Diego Unified School District and
California State testing standards.
- Goal Four: To implement Family-School Partnership Programs that involve 100% of Silver Gate
families in programs that support a strong, sustained partnership among families, teachers, and the
administration that lead to a strong foundation for student success and life-long learning.
- Goal Five: To create ongoing programs and fundraising that support continual improvements in
school facilities that promote safety, beauty, and a comfortable work space for students, staff, and
volunteers.
- Goal Six: To ensure a smooth transition between the elementary, middle and high school years
which continues the academic, character and emotional growth begun at Silver Gate and helps to unify the
cluster in its pursuit of excellence in academics and excellence in character.
- Goal Seven: To fund the Silver Gate Strategic Plan through the combination of existing and
proposed fundraising programs by raising a total of $1,000,000 over the next five years.
What Can You Do?
We need volunteers to work on each of the stated goals and bring them to fruition. Pick one that speaks to you and come
join us in fulfilling the vision and mission of FSG! We will have our first meeting as part of the October 18th FSG
meeting at 6:30 pm.
